KUALA LUMPUR — Dec. 26, 2019: The Attorney-General’s Chambers has filed an appeal against a court decision that dismissed an application to forfeit RM1.15 million seized from Kedah Umno and Habib Jewels Sdn. Bhd.

The money was frozen by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for being given by 1Malaysia Development Berhad.

Kedah Umno and Habib Jewels had claimed that the money, amounting RM1.05 million and RM100,000 respectively, was received from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Prosecutor Abdul Rashid Sulaiman said today that the court has set January 5 and 7 for case management.

On December 13, High Court judge Mohd. Nazlan Mohd. Ghazali dismissed the prosecution’s application to forfeit the money on the grounds that the prosecution had failed to prove its civil forfeiture cases.
