SHAH ALAM — February 15, 2019: The “Save Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Committee” has filed an appeal against a court decision to not allow their lawyer to hold a watching brief in the inquest.
Counsel M. Visvanathan, who filed the notice in Putrajaya last Monday, insisted that the committee has the right to hold a watching brief so that it can ask witnesses questions, apart from having access to all documents.
On February 8, a High Court upheld a Coroner’s Court to reject the application by the committee when it decided that the committee had no interest in the inquest on the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd. Kassim.
Adib, 24, was seriously injured during rioting around the temple on November 27 and died on December 17. — Bernama
