SHAH ALAM — July 16, 2019: A physics expert from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) considers the formula used by United Kingdom-based forensic pathologist Professor Dr. Shahrom Abd. Wahid as more rational compared to the one used by a pathologist from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Senior lecturer Dr. Amir Radzi Ab. Ghani pointed out at the inquest into the injury and subsequent death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd. Kassim that Shahrom focused on the height of the victim’s fall from a van to the road Dr. Ahmad Hafizam from KL Hospital took into account the total weight of the van, which is not apt because only the door of the van hit the victim.
In this respect, it is Amir’s contention that the weight of the van would only be applicable if Adib was directly hit by it.
“In a previous report that I read, it was stated that Adib was at the door of the van, so only the weight of the door should be used to calculate the blows that caused the injury.
“When the crash happened, only the weight of the door that hit the victim mattered…. the van did not play any role,” he testified.
Amir also agreed with Shahrom on an experiment that showed Adib did not fall nor was thrown out of the van during rioting outside the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple last November.
Adib of the Subang Jaya fire station was seriously injured during the rioting on November 27 and died on December 17 while being treated at the National Heart Institute. — Bernama
