PETALING JAYA — Feb. 26, 2020: The Pakatan Harapan presidential council has nominated Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as its choice to be considered for appointment as prime minister.

This follows a meeting yesterday but the decision was revealed by Anwar at a press conference today.

He also said that former council chairman and interim prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to chair the meeting but this was turned down.

(Mahathir quit as chairman of the Pribumi Bersatu which also quit the coalition and thus may have decided that he did not have the moral or legal authority to chair the meeting. — Editor’s note)

“Therefore, the presidential council decided on Tuesday that the prime minister candidate is Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.”

“Pakatan remains committed towards the aspirations and the mandate of the people to bring the country to a greater direction in terms of the economy, politics and society.

“We will not betray this mandate,” said Anwar at a press conference, adding that all parties should wait for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decision on the matter and abide by it.
