KLANG — Dec. 11, 2019: The Sultan of Selangor has decreed that people in the state must not be confused between facts and myths about the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) to the extent of worshipping its leader.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah pointed out that the MCP’s struggle was not based on the concept of forming an independent country which practices parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy although they were said to have fought colonialism in Malaya.

According to the ruler, the historical facts on the MCP ideology must be understood so that the people will not fall for something misleading.

Only by understanding the facts will people be able to appreciate the sacrifices of the security forces, both the military and police, especially during the communist insurgency.

In this regard, the Sultan spoke about the many who were killed while defending the honour and sovereignty of the country from the communists.

Sultan Sharafuddin’s address was delivered today at Istana Alam Shah during the investiture ceremony of state awards and medals to 91 recipients in conjunction with his 74th birthday. Present were Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, Raja Muda Tengku Amir Shah and Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Sultan further also advised political leaders to show greater concern for the people’s well-being and prioritise the peoples’ interests.
