KUALA LUMPUR — Sept. 26, 2019: Hollywood production company Red Granite Pictures owned by Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s stepson, Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz, was given US$9 million (about RM38mil) as an advance from Good Star Ltd., a company owned by fugitive businessman Jho Low. to produce The Wolf of Wall Street movie.
Based on document tendered in court, the money was given to an account at the City National Bank in Los Angeles.
When asked about this by the prosecution, former 1Malaysia Development Berhad CEO Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi said at that time in 2012 he didn’t know Gold Star was owned by Low.
Shahrol also said he had read somewhere that Red Granite was the producer of the movie that used money allegedly siphoned from 1MDB.
Prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram also showed Shahrol a document pertaining to a register of members of Red Granite which stated that the sole member of the company was Riza.
